We are pleased to present this month’s interesting paper, “PUMP study: reservoir pumping in suspected underdrained shunted patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus – a prospective single-center study” authored by:
- Uwe Kehler
A new prospective PUMP Study offers meaningful progress in managing shunted normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). By using a simple, non‑invasive reservoir‑pumping test, clinicians identified underdrainage and avoided invasive diagnostics in 76% of cases. The pumping maneuver provided rapid functional feedback, guided valve adjustments, and improved clinical decision-making, making it a practical first‑line tool for everyday NPH management. This study highlights how small, bedside interventions can meaningfully improve patient care.
