We are pleased to present this month’s interesting paper, “A novel method of fabricating dynamic, heterogenous benchtop lateral and third ventricle phantoms from MRI of hydrocephalus patients: a verification and validation study” authored by:

This study introduces a novel MRI-based technique to create dynamic, patient-specific 3D models of the lateral and third ventricles in hydrocephalus. Using polystyrene rotational molding. Gura and collegues developed anatomically accurate and compliant ventricular models that closely replicate real patient morphology and volume changes.
These models could become powerful clinical tools to better understand shunt failure, catheter positioning, and ventricular dynamics, paving the way for more personalized hydrocephalus research and treatment.
